New projects going on ...
Recently we've developed a new site for Digital Activators and their product (only for South Africans) - called JustPlay. Lots of great prizes to win and all for free.

We're also working on a few new projects that included, mobile websites, multi-lingual systems and an art management system. It's nice to get such a variety of projects in as it opens new areas for us to work in and see how companies' requirements change.

Kicking off 2009
2009 has been a very busy year for us so far!... and it just started.
We are currently working quite a few new projects and I'm off to Turkey
again at the beginning of February for 6 weeks.
I have started customizing an open source blogging engine, BlogEngine.NET
and it's definitely a must use for anyone wanting to host/develop their
own blog, with lots of great features (although this blog has not yet
been switched over, it will be high on my list when I get back from
Turkey). You can preview the blog with a customized skin.
Other projects we have in the pipeline is to develop a fully
customized shopping cart engine for a clothing store (details to follow
once we get the green light), a complete HR/Careers system for Levi's®
to manage online jobs and applicants, a major update on the Line book
system we developed for them and a couple more.

Get leads for your business, or find the perfect provider
|
Finding a constant flow of leads for your business is the one thing no one would say no to, we always want more clients; on the other hand, when needing someone to come and do repairs at your house, be it a plumber or electrician, maybe you want some new service, like finding DSTV installers, or you need an accountant... how would you know which providers are good or right for the job?

On the website, www.breadandbutter.co.za solving this has just become so much easier; a lead exchange for small businesses. There is two options available, you can sign up to only be a client (adding your leads - this is free) and find providers to work with, or sign up to be a provider (selling your service or product - fixed monthly fee), and you will be put in touch with the relevant parties. A really great place to keep it central and all providers are rated by the members that they have worked with, so you get a clear indication of how good they are by reading about the experience other clients had with this provider and the rating they gave.
For providers this means you will get a constant flow of leads, by subscribing to the areas you operate in (to get leads from those areas) and the relevant categories (a vast list) that fit your skill or service type.
Visit the website, www.breadandbutter.co.za, and check out the frequently asked questions to find out more.

Booking manager gone live!
|
Kastim Booking, our booking system for salons and boutiques successfully completed it's free month trial at a client and they are extremely happy with everything it offers! We are working on even more new features for it, but are now ready to go live with this product and will soon start seeing many more clients to offer them this product.
The product has grown quite a bit, and we have extended it for sms reminders to be sent to clients and bar code scanners to select stock when adding stock to a booking, check out the features. Kastim Booking comes with a built-in stock management system, agent management (with days off reflected on the calendar), and also does extensive reporting on sales you've made, the agents working for you, booking types and stock levels. Anyone that is interested in this product, even to sell it, has the opportunity to earn passive income as we have a commission structure in place for the first year's rental fee from the client. So feel free to contact us.

Gay Share website launched
|
Over the last few weeks, we have dedicated a lot of time to make sure this website offers it's visitors a fresh new look. Gay share consists of three areas Live, Work and Play and the Live section allows you to find many different types of accommodation; flat sharing, property rentals, holiday lets and property sales.
The Work section offers a national directory listing, a job category and all listings are free of charge! An entertainment and night life category under Play will list all the bars, clubs and more in your area and again you can list your establishment for free here too.
A social calendar is added to follow events happening that you dare not miss, you can add your event too, or just browse the photo galleries and see everyone attending different events. A community category will list establishments for charity and support located in your area.
Check out the website by visiting www.gayshare.co.za

Attending the 501® Live Unbuttoned launch
|
Last night we attended the launch for the new 501®.
We were greeted with some cocktails and entertained by many different video montage's of how this brand evolved over the years. On the Levi's® website you can view the new campaign, which shows some outdoor ads and TV commercials.
Visit the advertising section directly from here and look for the 501® Live Unbuttoned Campaign.
Snacks and drinks were also served all night and it was great to see and meet everyone involved in the brand from SA. One of the nice things was the good bag when you left :)
So now you will see most of us wearing the new 501® as we were spoiled to a voucher for a fresh pair!

We are back in Cape Town
|
After a great visit to Turkey we are back in Cape Town. We travelled via Dubai and I can say, it is not fun. You have an 8 hour stop-over there and yes you do get seriously bored. The airport is not great, you can shop and eat a serious amount, which leaves you either with a headache from all the money you spent or a stomach ache from all the food you ate :)
The trip in Turkey was great, we met some great people and made some really good connections. A future trip is definitely on the cards and we look forward to having more dealings with the companies there. For now it's back to getting some projects completed and I'm happy to say that all of them remain on schedule. We will post some updates to these closer to their launch dates, so check back soon...

Our meeting with Deltawebsistem
Our second meeting was with a company called Deltawebsistem. We presented the Kastim Framework and shown all the advantages of it. The benefit of using the framework was clear very early on and we could discuss further details on how a partnership will be possible. We looked at their work with Ajax frameworks and the system they have developed. Our companies will benefit from a partnership and we will be able to support each other to develop big systems and work on many projects together. We are looking to our follow-up meeting next to discuss a partnership in further detail.

Our meeting with Holographus
|
Our first meeting in Turkey went really well. We met with Holographus, a design and development company, about future opportunities for system development, web design and flash development. We showcased some of our systems we developed and the flash development we have done for many clients.
A topic that made us feel right at home with Holographus was that both of our companies approach the market in a similar manner and the way we run our companies. This allowed us to see the immediate potential and opportunities between both companies and the areas we can definitely compliment each other. We are looking forward to a great relationship between our two companies.

Google maps integration
|
Google maps is a great way to add events, businesses and properties onto a map. We are currently working on building an integrated module that can allow different "pins" be placed on the map according to the location you click on and then complete the details for that spot. Having lots of fun playing with the Google Maps API ...
You can filter the items to be displayed on the map in many ways, we have added drop downs and radio buttons:

When adding a new item, you can click anywhere on the map and a pin is placed in the area, with a balloon displaying the coordinates which will be saved for your new item:

Visiting Turkey ....
|
Recently we have made contact with two companies in Turkey that is interested in seeing what Kastim is all about, so we heading out there to test the water. We will be spending two weeks in Izmir, Turkey, presenting our services and solutions and who knows, we might just start widening our service delivery.
At the same time, we will visit the country side and being the opposite season there, the weather should be warmer there than in Cape Town, so the sun and warmer water will be much appreciated.
